Our approach
Our GEDSI and GALS Approach in Kenya
GEDSI is built into every service we deliver. Our GALS tools turn inclusion commitments into evidence donors recognise.
We reply within one working day.
How inclusion shows up in our work
GEDSI means gender equality, disability and social inclusion. GALS is the Gender Action Learning System, a community-led method. We apply both across every service.
GEDSI analysis and strategy
We show who is reached, who is missed and what to change in your design.
GALS facilitator training
We train your staff and community champions to run GALS with households.
Vision journey mapping
Households set goals and plan steps. We record the plans as progress data.
Gender balance analysis
We examine who does the work and who controls the income, then track shifts.
Disaggregated indicators
Every result split by women, youth, disability and community, with gaps flagged.
Integration into MEL
We link household-level change to your results framework and donor reports.
How we turn GEDSI commitments into measurable change
GEDSI means gender equality, disability and social inclusion. GALS is the Gender Action Learning System. We combine them in one workable method.
- 1
Analyse who is included and who is left out
We review your design, data and context. We look at barriers, power and risks for women, youth, people with disabilities and indigenous communities. We apply Do No Harm principles.
You getGEDSI analysis with barriers and risks - 2
Set the strategy and indicators
We write a GEDSI action plan with targets. Indicators split by sex, age, disability and indigenous identity. We use the Washington Group Short Set for disability.
You getAction plan and disaggregated indicator sheets - 3
Train facilitators and champions
We train your staff and community champions in GALS tools. These include the vision road journey, gender balance tree and challenge action tree.
You getFacilitator guide and trained champions - 4
Roll out in households and groups
Households draw their own vision and plan steps. Peers support one another. Facilitators track who joins and who drops out.
You getParticipation and progress records - 5
Link to your MEL system
We turn household change into indicators. Examples are shared decisions on income and women's control of sales income. We feed them into your dashboard.
You getGEDSI data in your MEL system - 6
Report to donors
We write a GEDSI results report that shows gaps against targets. We state honestly where inclusion fell short and why.

Is this the right service for you?
- Value chain and livelihoods programmesTeams that must show women and youth gain from market access.
- Programmes with GEDSI targetsProjects whose donor requires evidence, not only intention.
- Organisations working with indigenous communitiesTeams that need respectful, community-led tools.
- Inclusion appears only in the narrativeWe add targets and indicators so it appears in your data.
- Women are counted as beneficiaries but not as decision-makersWe measure control of income and decisions, not only attendance.
- People with disabilities are invisible in dataWe use a standard question set and flag gaps against targets.
- Tools that feel imposedGALS is community-led. Households own the plan.

Questions we hear most
What does GEDSI mean?
GEDSI stands for gender equality, disability and social inclusion. It asks who benefits from a programme and who is left out.
What is the GALS methodology?
GALS is the Gender Action Learning System. It is a community-led method that uses simple visual tools to help households plan change together.
What are the main GALS tools?
Common tools include the vision road journey, the gender balance tree and the challenge action tree. Each helps people draw goals, balance workloads and plan action.
How do you link GALS to MEL?
We turn household vision journeys and balance analysis into indicators. We then record them in your MEL system alongside other results.
Can you disaggregate by disability and indigenous identity?
Yes. We design tools and consent steps that respect people and still give you usable, disaggregated data.
